Walker Runs Wild as Chiefs Edge Raiders 30-27, End Vegas' Unbeaten Start
Kenneth Walker III piled up 177 rushing yards and two scores, and a special-teams fumble swung a tight game Kansas City's way at Allegiant Stadium.
The first loss always teaches you something. For the Las Vegas Raiders, now 3-1 after falling 30-27 to the Kansas City Chiefs, the lesson was blunt: you cannot give a 4-0 team extra possessions and expect to survive.
Walker takes over
Kansas City's ground game was the story. Kenneth Walker III carried 22 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns, including a 76-yard third-quarter burst that flipped the field and the momentum, per the Raiders' official recap. Patrick Mahomes didn't need a huge night — 15-of-30 for 225 yards, according to Respect My Region, with both of his touchdown throws going to Tyquan Thornton.
The swing play
Las Vegas led 13-10 at halftime and was trading blows deep into the second half. Then came the play that decided it: Chiefs linebacker Jeffrey Bassa punched the ball loose from Dareke Young on a kickoff return, Kansas City recovered, and per Respect My Region, Walker scored on the very next snap — a three-point game became an 11-point hole in a matter of seconds.
Cousins' big night, bitter ending
Kirk Cousins threw for 365 yards on 31-of-52 passing with two touchdowns — a 27-yarder to Ian Thomas, his first score since 2020, and a late 20-yard strike to Brock Bowers that, with a two-point conversion, made it a one-score game. But a late interception by Xavier Nwankpa sealed it, and the turnover ledger read 2-0 Kansas City. "That's one of the plays I'll be driving home thinking about," Cousins said afterward of the pick.
What's next
The Chiefs move to 4-0 with their perfect start intact. The Raiders head to New England in Week 5 with plenty to like — 365 passing yards, Bowers rolling — and one glaring fix: finishing drives and protecting the football in the moments that decide division games.
