Torino beat Udinese 2-1 at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino on Monday, giving new coach Abate his first win in charge and the club its first home victory of the Serie A season.

How it unfolded

According to ANSA and Lega Serie A, the first half was cagey. Torino's Adams hit the post from a scramble inside the box, and Braganca put away the rebound to give the hosts the lead shortly before the break. Udinese answered before halftime: Ekkelenkamp beat Perri at the second attempt after Comuzzo had blocked his first shot, per Lega Serie A.

The winner came in the 67th minute. Lega Serie A describes Udinese goalkeeper Okoye rushing off his line and colliding with Bertola, leaving the ball loose for Kulenovic to push into the net. ANSA ties the move to a long ball from Vlasic and calls Okoye's sortie rash.

ANSA reports that Abate started in a 4-4-2 with Simeone and Adams up front, with Vlasic and Fitz-Jim on the bench. Udinese, under coach Runjaic, lined up with Solet leading a back three, and Alaba and Davis were left out of the starting side. Chakvetadze had an early chance for the visitors that was cleared for a corner. After the break, ANSA says, Comuzzo missed a clear chance from a Vlasic cross, and Lega Serie A notes Vlasic's introduction led to a Comuzzo header that hit the post.

Udinese pushed late, bringing on Davis, Jovanovic and Alaba, with Alaba making his Serie A debut. Both reports list chances that struck the woodwork: Kulenovic found the far post for Torino, while Ekkelenkamp and Ebosse also hit the frame from distance for Udinese.

What it means

For Torino, the result lifts them to seven points after six matchdays, per Lega Serie A, and ends a wait for a home win. ANSA reports that Abate changed shape through the match, starting with a 4-4-2 and moving to a back three after the interval.

For Udinese it is a fourth straight defeat. They have four points from six games, a total ANSA calls "fin troppo misero" (all too meagre).
