Getafe played more than an hour with ten men and still came away with a point, drawing 1-1 with Rayo Vallecano at the Coliseum on Monday night in LaLiga.

Álvaro García put Rayo ahead and Martín Satriano answered early in the second half, but Getafe's Djené was sent off before the interval and the home side spent most of the match defending.

How it unfolded

Rayo took the lead in the 11th minute when García finished a move set up by Jorge de Frutos, according to Total Football Analysis. Getafe's afternoon got harder soon after. Djené was booked for handball in the 16th minute and shown a second yellow in the 28th, leaving the home side down to ten for the remaining 60-plus minutes.

Rayo led 1-0 at half-time. In the 56th minute Francho Serrano, who had been booked five minutes earlier, set up Satriano for the equaliser, the same sources report. (The Rayo club website's goal list gives the goals at 10 and 55 minutes, a one-minute difference from the match-report text.)

After that, Getafe defended deep. Football España describes the closing stages as sustained Rayo pressure, with Getafe holding on. The club-site report says Getafe's best chance of the match was an Enes Ünal header that Emil Audero saved.

The numbers

The statistics tell the story of a team with the ball and a team with a point. Total Football Analysis has Rayo with 68 percent of possession and 21 shots to Getafe's 12, with expected goals of 2.26 to 0.61. Getafe finished with six yellow cards. Satriano was the highest-rated player on the pitch in that analysis, with four shots and two key passes, and Getafe's leading scorer this season, Sergio Camello, was kept off the scoresheet.

Carvajal's debut

The match also marked Dani Carvajal's first appearance for Getafe, per Football España. The 34-year-old signed on Oct. 13 on a deal through June 30, 2027, after leaving Real Madrid as a free agent. He was booked in the 79th minute and is suspended for Thursday's Conference League game against Lugano.

What it means

Both sides finish the night on nine points. Getafe are 14th after nine games and Rayo are 13th with a game in hand, according to Total Football Analysis. For Rayo, the match leaves the sense of two points dropped against ten men: the 2.26 expected goals to 0.61 shows how much of the game they controlled. For Getafe, it is their second straight 1-1; their previous match, against Universitatea Craiova in the Conference League, ended the same way, Football España notes.

Getafe next host Lugano in the Conference League on Thursday, Oct. 22. Rayo host Elche in LaLiga on Saturday, Oct. 24.
