Steven Stamkos made NHL history Thursday night and Nashville still lost. His tying goal with 0.8 seconds left in regulation made him the first player ever with two career game-tying goals in the final second of regulation — but Macklin Celebrini's shootout winner sent the Sharks to a 3-2 victory at Bridgestone Arena, per NHL.com.

San Jose builds it, Nashville chases it

The Sharks led early when Tyler Toffoli threaded a no-look pass from below the goal line to Mason Marchment, who one-timed it past Juuse Saros at 5:30 of the first. Will Smith doubled the lead at 4:28 of the third on a wrist shot, with Michael Kesselring picking up his first point since San Jose acquired him from Buffalo in June.

Nashville pushed back. Ryan O'Reilly tipped in a power-play rebound at 9:05 of the third, and with Saros pulled for the extra attacker, Stamkos wired a wrist shot from the top of the left circle as the clock all but expired — his fourth goal of the season. His first final-second tying goal came on Nov. 4, 2025 at Minnesota, per the Predators.

Nedeljkovic shuts the door

Alex Nedeljkovic finished with 32 saves, none bigger than a lunging glove stop on Roman Josi with nine seconds left in overtime. In the shootout, Celebrini was the only shooter to score, cutting to the middle and beating Saros (30 saves) through the glove. "He won that game for us," Smith said of his goaltender.

What it means

San Jose improved to 4-3-0 after losing three of its previous four — a young roster banking a tight road win. Nashville slid to 2-2-3 and has now lost four of five, though coach Andrew Brunette pointed to the late push: "We're a resilient group." The Predators close their homestand Saturday against St. Louis, while Josi quietly extended his point streak against the Sharks to 11 straight games.
