Sevilla 2-0 Osasuna: Romero opens it, Félix's deflected shot seals it
Sevilla beat Osasuna 2-0 at the Sánchez Pizjuán, handing Jagoba Arrasate his first defeat since his return to the Osasuna bench.
Sevilla beat Osasuna 2-0 at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán on Monday night in LaLiga's tenth round, with Isaac Romero scoring the first goal and Félix adding a second late on. For Osasuna it was the first defeat of Jagoba Arrasate's second spell in charge, according to the Spanish outlet OKDiario's match report.
How it unfolded
The visitors had the better of the first chances. Enzo Boyomo headed wide in the fourth minute, and in the 17th Ante Budimir's first-time effort ended up around the post. Sevilla's first notable attempt came in the sixth minute, when Félix shot wide from the far post.
Romero broke the deadlock in the 24th minute. Osasuna then picked up a yellow card, for Alejandro Catena, shortly afterwards, and Romero himself was booked in the 55th minute. Rosier was cautioned for Osasuna in the 67th.
Osasuna goalkeeper Aitor Fernández kept the margin at one goal for a long stretch, denying Ejuke in the 41st minute and Kike Salas in the 73rd. The report names him Osasuna's best player on the night.
The second goal
The game was settled around the 81st-82nd minute (the match sheet gives 81, the body of the report 82), when a shot from Félix deflected off an Osasuna defender and went in. Osasuna had one more opening, in the 88th minute, when Kike Barja was just unable to reach a loose ball at the far post, but there was no way back.
The match began with a minute's silence for Alfredo Sánchez Monteseirín, the former mayor of Seville, who died on the day of the game. The attendance was 38,500.
What it means
The result stops a short run of momentum for Osasuna, who had won 2-0 away to Racing in their previous match. Arrasate's side now turn quickly to cup duty, with a Copa del Rey first-round tie against Atlético Calatayud at San Íñigo on Thursday 29 October at 19:00.
For Sevilla it is a home win built on one early goal and a late deflection rather than sustained pressure, and on the evidence of this report Osasuna did enough in the opening quarter-hour to have taken the lead themselves. Torch has not verified the current LaLiga table in this report, so we make no claim here about either club's league position.
