Minnesota Storm Back From 2-0 Down to End St. Louis City's 19-Match Unbeaten Run
Marcus Caldeira's 86th-minute winner capped a three-goal comeback at Allianz Field, snapping Minnesota's own eight-match winless skid in the process.
Two streaks died at Allianz Field on Saturday night. Minnesota United came from two goals down to beat St. Louis City SC 3-2, ending the visitors' 19-match unbeaten run in MLS play — and snapping an eight-match winless skid of their own, per the AP.
St. Louis strike twice in ten minutes
The night began as if the streak would roll on. Rafael Navarro scored unassisted in the 4th minute, then turned provider six minutes later for Jeong Sang-bin, and St. Louis carried the 2-0 lead into halftime. The visitors hadn't lost in the league since a 2-0 defeat at Austin FC on May 3, going 13-0-6 across the run.
Three different scorers flip it
Aziel Jackson started the comeback with his first goal of the season, set up by Kelvin Yeboah and Bongokuhle Hlongwane. In the 68th minute, Yeboah equalized with his club-record 17th goal of the season, assisted by Mauricio González. Then, with four minutes of regulation left, Marcus Caldeira finished off a move from Joaquín Pereyra and Hlongwane to win it.
Roman Bürki made six saves in the St. Louis goal to Drake Callender's four, but the night belonged to the hosts.
What it means
For St. Louis (14-6-10), the first defeat since early May stings but barely dents a strong playoff position — and notably, the club has still never won in Minnesota outside its 2023 inaugural season. For Minnesota (8-12-10), the win revives fading playoff hopes, as MLSsoccer.com put it, with the goals coming from across the squad rather than one talisman.
Both sides close out the regular-season weekend slate on Saturday: St. Louis at Real Salt Lake, Minnesota at Houston.
