Last Call: LA28 Ticket Drop 2 Closes Thursday, With Aquatics Already Gone

The second wave of LA28 Olympic ticket sales ends August 20 — here's what's left, what's sold out, and what the demand says about 2028.

The window is closing. Drop 2, LA28's second wave of Olympic ticket sales, runs only through Thursday, August 20, per the organizing committee. Fans who registered by July 22 and were picked in the ticket draw received notifications on August 6–7 and were assigned time slots across the August 10–20 window, with roughly 48 hours to shop once their turn came. If your slot is still open, this is the week to use it.

What's actually left

Drop 2 opened with tickets across all Olympic sports, but the shelves have thinned fast. By August 11, every aquatics discipline — swimming, diving, water polo, artistic swimming and open-water — had no standard tickets remaining, according to The Medalist's Drop 2 guide, with only wheelchair-accessible inventory left. Marquee gymnastics sessions are reported to be largely depleted too.

There is still real value in the system: LA28 says nearly half of all Olympic tickets are priced under $200, and more than three-quarters under $400. The buying limits are cumulative across presales — up to 12 Olympic session tickets per person, plus up to 12 soccer tournament tickets that don't count against the cap, with ceremonies limited to four tickets each.

The demand curve is the story

Drop 2 exists because Drop 1 was, by LA28's account, historic: more than 4 million tickets sold in the first sale, reaching all 50 states and 85 countries. About 500,000 of the $28 local tickets went to residents of Los Angeles and Oklahoma City, and 95% of tickets under $100 sold during the locals presale. One detail worth sitting with: women's Olympic sessions outsold men's sessions, 93% to 88% — and the four new sports (flag football, lacrosse, softball and squash) sold out their initial inventory entirely.

Two years out from the opening ceremony, the scarcity is already real. LA28 has not yet announced timing for the next sale phase, so for now, Thursday is the deadline that matters.
