LA28 Ticket Drop 2 Opens August 10 — and 12 Million People Are in Line
Registration for 2028 Olympic tickets has more than doubled since February, and the next purchase window arrives with time-slot emails landing this week.
Two years out from the Los Angeles Games, the clearest measure of demand so far is a queue: 12 million people have now registered for a chance to buy LA28 Olympic tickets, up from 5 million in February, according to the organizing committee. The next chance to actually buy arrives fast: Drop 2 runs August 10–20.
How Drop 2 works
LA28 says fans randomly selected for Drop 2 will be notified by email on August 6–7, with each assigned time slot staying open for 48 hours. Tickets will span all sports at a range of price points, subject to availability, and purchasers can take up to 12 Olympic event tickets plus 12 additional tickets for the soccer tournaments. A Visa cardholder presale ran July 29–31 ahead of the public window.
Registrations have come from more than 200 countries and all 50 U.S. states — a reminder that these Games are being sold to a global audience, not just a Southern California one.
The Drop 1 baseline
The first sales window set a high bar. LA28 says Drop 1 placed more than 4 million tickets, including half a million at the symbolic $28 price point, with the vast majority of that first wave priced under $100. "Twelve million people registered for a chance to buy tickets, a historic show of excitement, and it's only the beginning," said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover.
Why it matters
Los Angeles will host the Olympics for the third time, after 1932 and 1984, and ticket drops are the first hard, public numbers on how much appetite exists two years before the cauldron is lit. A registration pool that has more than doubled in five months — reported by Inside the Games among others — suggests Drop 2's random selection will leave far more fans outside the window than inside it.
