Kraken 6, Red Wings 3: A Four-Goal Second Period Flips the Script in Detroit
Detroit led twice and outshot Seattle 16-3 early, but four Kraken goals in the second period turned the night around.
For half a period, Friday at Little Caesars Arena looked like Detroit's night. The Red Wings outshot Seattle 16-3 early and led twice — then the Kraken scored four times in the second period and skated off with a 6-3 win, according to NHL.com's game recap.
Detroit's strong start
Viktor Arvidsson opened on the power play — his third straight game with a power-play goal — before Berkly Catton answered on a backhand off a Kaapo Kakko feed. Early in the second, Michael Wallinder scored his first NHL goal on a point shot through traffic to restore Detroit's lead at 2-1.
The second-period flood
Then the game flipped. Frederick Gaudreau tied it, Mackie Samoskevich put Seattle in front, Gaudreau struck again, and Ben Meyers made it 5-2 just 12 seconds after stepping out of the penalty box. John Gibson was pulled after allowing five goals on 15 shots; Daniil Tarasov stopped 8 of 9 in his Detroit debut. Red Wings coach Todd McLellan said his team "got loose and impatient instead of sticking with it."
Finishing touches
Vince Dunn added a 5-on-3 goal in the third, and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard got his own first NHL goal late — becoming the first Norwegian to score for Detroit. Philipp Grubauer made 37 saves, with Seattle coach Lane Lambert crediting his goaltender for weathering Detroit's early push. Gaudreau finished with two goals and Meyers with three points.
What it means
Seattle improves to 3-2-0 and opens a five-game road trip having now scored six goals three times this season — tied with Colorado for the most such games in the league. Detroit drops to 1-3-0 to close a four-game homestand, with the small consolations of two first NHL goals and a debut in net. One streak ended quietly: Jordan Eberle's season-opening point run stopped at four games, tied for the Kraken franchise record.
