Jaguars 19, Eagles 17: Cam Little's 57-yarder wins a wild finish in London
Philadelphia led with eight seconds left; Jacksonville answered with a 53-yard kick return and a game-winning field goal as time expired.
Jacksonville beat Philadelphia 19-17 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Sunday, and the final eight seconds were stranger than the other 59 minutes combined.
The finish
The Jaguars had taken a 16-14 lead on Trevor Lawrence's 27-yard touchdown pass to Washington on fourth-and-5, with 3:20 left. Philadelphia answered late: Jake Elliott kicked a 48-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining to put the Eagles up 17-16.
That was not the end. Ameer Abdullah returned the ensuing kickoff 53 yards, and Cam Little converted a 57-yard field goal on the final play to win it. Jacksonville's long snapper, Ross Matiscik, had left in the first quarter with a shoulder injury, so defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton snapped the ball for the kick, according to the Jaguars' game report.
How the game got there
Lawrence opened the scoring with a 51-yard touchdown pass to Washington in the first quarter. Will Shipley's two-yard run tied it for Philadelphia in the second, and Darius Cooper's 62-yard catch from Jalen Hurts put the Eagles up 14-7. Jacksonville then failed on fourth-and-goal from the Eagles' one-yard line, so Philadelphia held that lead at halftime. Little's 34-yard field goal in the third quarter made it 14-10.
Lawrence finished 24 of 39 for 331 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Hurts was 21 of 40 for 220 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions. Jacksonville recorded one sack, shared by Antonio Johnson and Travon Walker, and forced no turnovers, which the team's report says was its first turnover-free game of the season.
There were other disruptions. Jaguars rookie defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. and Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter were both disqualified for fighting on the opening kickoff, and left tackle Anton Harrison left with a shoulder injury in the third quarter, with Walker Little moving into his spot.
What it means
The win is Jacksonville's third straight and moves the Jaguars to 4-1, still leading the AFC South. Philadelphia falls to 2-3 with its third consecutive loss. For the Eagles, it is a game they led twice in the final minutes and still lost, which will sting more than the record itself.
For Jacksonville, the offense produced 331 passing yards while the defense forced nothing, a reminder that the Jaguars won this one through Lawrence and a kicker rather than through the defense that has defined their season so far. The status of Harrison and Matiscik is worth watching after both left injured.
