Hull City 2-2 Everton: How It Happened

Four goals in a 25-minute second-half spell at the MKM Stadium left Everton unbeaten but frustrated, and gave Hull a point they celebrated like more.

A goalless first half gave no warning of what was coming. In the end, Hull City 2-2 Everton was Sunday's wildest half-hour in the Premier League — four goals between the 49th and 74th minutes, the lead changing hands, and both managers leaving the MKM Stadium with very different readings of the same point.

How it unfolded

Everton actually had the ball in the net first, but Brennan Johnson's 37th-minute effort was ruled out for offside after a VAR check, and James Tarkowski then had to clear a Joe Gelhardt shot off the line before the break, per Sky Sports.

Gelhardt would not be denied twice. In the 49th minute he pounced on an Ainsley Maitland-Niles mistake and chipped Jordan Pickford — the first goal Hull have conceded at home all season, according to Sky Sports. Maitland-Niles answered his own error with the cross Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall headed in on 55, and when Dewsbury-Hall slipped Thierno Barry through on 68, Everton led. Substitute Mohamed Belloumi had the last word, driving in low from inside the box in the 74th.

The margins

Sky Sports counted eight big chances for Everton, five of them falling to Barry, who also missed a six-yard tap-in at 1-1. "A couple of defensive lapses were really poor," said David Moyes, who felt his side should have won. Hull head coach Sergej Jakirovic saw a "crazy second half" and a good point against opponents he praised for their discipline.

What it means

Everton stay unbeaten after six league games — a real foundation, but one built increasingly on draws rather than wins. For Hull, the response told its own story: a side that hadn't conceded a home league goal all season shipped two in 13 minutes, fell behind, and still found a way back. That kind of resilience tends to matter more over a season than any single point.
