For the first time in 16 seasons of top-flight football, FC Augsburg finished a Bundesliga matchday on top of the table — and they did it by walking into Deutsche Bank Park, going a goal down, and hanging four on Eintracht Frankfurt, per the club's own match report.

A game of two halves, literally

Frankfurt were the better side before the break. Jonathan Burkardt headed them in front in the opening minutes from Younes Ebnoutalib's delivery, and only a string of saves from Augsburg goalkeeper Finn Dahmen kept the deficit at one, according to bundesliga.com's match report.

Then came the ambush. Straight from the restart, Arijon Ibrahimovic — on debut after arriving from Bayern Munich — headed in Marius Wolf's cross to level in the 46th minute. Barely sixty seconds later, Robin Fellhauer pounced on a fumbled save to make it 2-1. Frankfurt had led at halftime; two minutes into the second half, they were behind.

Piling on

Alexis Claude-Maurice curled in the third in the 65th minute, and Fabian Rieder applied the flourish with a free kick in the 89th — 4-1, and a scoreline that flattered nobody unfairly by the end.

What it means

Augsburg have six points from two matches and, for one matchday at least, the view from the summit. Ibrahimovic's debut — a goal, an assist on the go-ahead strike, and the fans' man-of-the-match vote per bundesliga.com — is the storyline with legs. For Frankfurt, still without a win after two rounds, the concern isn't the first half they controlled; it's how completely the game slipped once momentum turned.
