Duplantis Headlines Zurich as the Diamond League Hits Its Final Regular-Season Stop
Thursday's Weltklasse Zurich brings together Mondo Duplantis, a stacked women's 100m and a heavyweight men's 1500m — the last audition before the Brussels final, two summers out from LA28.
Two years from Los Angeles, the athletes who will define LA28 are still settling their hierarchy — and Thursday's Weltklasse Zurich is the season's last regular-season stage to do it on. The meeting at Letzigrund on August 27 is the final stop before the Diamond League final in Brussels on September 4-5.
Duplantis, again
Mondo Duplantis returns to Zurich for the sixth year in a row, still chasing a 16th world record and a sixth Diamond League title — which would move him within one of the record seven series crowns shared by Renaud Lavillenie and Christian Taylor. His 2026 has been unusually mixed by his standards: a meeting record in Keqiao, then a surprise defeat in Stockholm. The Swede has won three of his five Diamond Trophies in Zurich, and meeting organizers are billing his return as the centerpiece of the night.
A women's 100m worth the ticket
According to FloTrack's entry lists, the women's 100m stacks Melissa Jefferson-Wooden (10.61 PB), Sha'Carri Richardson (10.65) and Julien Alfred (10.72) in the same field — three of the fastest women of this Olympic cycle, racing with final qualification and seeding on the line.
Middle-distance heavyweights
The men's 1500m lists Jakob Ingebrigtsen against Americans Cole Hocker and Yared Nuguse, a rematch of the rivalry that has shaped the event since Paris. Emmanuel Wanyonyi headlines the men's 800m, Grant Fisher runs the 3000m, and Femke Bol is entered in the women's 800m — a notable event choice for the Dutch star. Entry lists can shift before race day, but as constructed, Zurich amounts to a one-night census of where the sport stands heading into Brussels — and, further out, toward Los Angeles.
