Crystal Palace 3-1 Nottingham Forest: How It Happened
Oliver Glasner's return to Selhurst Park started with applause and an early lead, and ended with his old club completing a comeback win.
The afternoon was always going to be about Oliver Glasner. His new Nottingham Forest side even wrote the opening line, leading inside three minutes at Selhurst Park. But Crystal Palace rewrote everything after it, winning 3-1 on Sunday to hand their former manager a losing return — and, according to Sky Sports, end a 14-year wait for a league win over Forest.
Forest's fast start
Dan Ndoye pounced in the 3rd minute when a header back to the goalkeeper fell kindly, and for half an hour Forest looked the sharper side: Morgan Gibbs-White rattled the crossbar on 35 and Walter Benitez denied Liam Delap point-blank moments later, per Sky Sports.
The turnaround
Daichi Kamada levelled in the 41st minute — his first Premier League goal, confirmed after a VAR check — and the game flipped for good deep in first-half stoppage time, when Jefferson Lerma's header squirmed through Matz Sels' legs. From 1-0 down, Palace walked in at the break ahead, and Yeremy Pino put the result beyond doubt on 59, turning in a rebound after Sels saved from Jorgen Strand Larsen. The goal ended a 19-appearance Premier League scoring drought for Pino, per Sky Sports. Benitez preserved the margin late, denying Chris Wood from close range.
The Glasner subplot
The Austrian, who delivered silverware before leaving Palace in the summer, was applauded before kick-off and serenaded less kindly once the home side took control. He called it Forest's best performance of the season while conceding his team failed to take their chances; Palace head coach Pierre Sage said the day was never about revenge and praised what Glasner built at the club.
What it means
Palace climb to 12th on seven points from six games; Forest sit 14th with five. Sky Sports notes Palace have now scored three or more in two of their last four league matches — as many times as in their previous 37 combined. Whatever Selhurst Park lost in the summer, the goals, at least, are arriving.
