Brewers 4, Padres 3: Chourio's walk-off puts Milwaukee one win from the NLCS
Down 3-1 in the seventh, Milwaukee clawed back and Jackson Chourio lined a 101 mph fastball up the middle to take a 2-0 NLDS lead over San Diego.
For eight innings of NLDS Game 2 at American Family Field, San Diego did almost everything required to even the series. Then Jackson Chourio got a 101.3 mph fastball from Mason Miller and lined it up the middle, scoring two and handing the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-3 walk-off win and a commanding 2-0 series lead, per CBS Sports.
How the Padres let it slip
San Diego built its lead the hard way: Ty France singled home Manny Machado in the first, the Padres added a run in the fifth, and France's second RBI single made it 3-1 in the seventh. Michael King was excellent in his five innings — one earned run, six strikeouts. But Milwaukee kept chipping. Sal Frelick's RBI single answered in the fifth, and in the seventh a David Hamilton error let Garrett Mitchell score to make it 3-2. In the ninth, with the winning runs aboard, Chourio ended it against Miller, who took the loss.
A 22-year-old's October
Chourio, at 22, became the second-youngest player ever with a postseason walk-off hit. It fits the pattern of this Milwaukee October: both wins in the series have come by one run — Game 1 finished 3-2 — a formula of contact, defense and late-inning nerve rather than slugging.
What's next
The series moves to San Diego for Game 3 on Tuesday, with the Padres facing elimination in the best-of-five. The full postseason slate is on Torch's diamond schedule.
