12 Million in Line: LA28's Second Ticket Drop Opens August 10
Registration for 2028 Olympic tickets has more than doubled since February, and the next sales window is days away — selected fans get their email this week.
Two years out from Los Angeles, the clearest measure of LA28 isn't a venue render or a sponsorship deal — it's a queue. More than 12 million people have now registered to buy Olympic tickets, LA28 announced, up from 5 million in February. Registrations have come from more than 200 countries and all 50 U.S. states, according to NBC Los Angeles.
"Twelve million people registered for a chance to buy tickets, a historic show of excitement, and it's only the beginning," said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover.
What happens this week
The timeline is immediate. Fans selected for Ticket Drop 2 will be notified by email on August 6-7, and the sales window runs August 10-20, with each selected participant given a 48-hour slot to shop. A Visa cardholder presale ran July 29-31 as the milestone kicked off. Per NBC LA, buyers can take up to 12 Olympic event tickets, with a four-ticket cap per ceremony.
What Drop 1 revealed
The first drop moved more than 4 million tickets, and LA28 says nearly 95 percent of tickets priced under $100 went to local residents — a data point the organizing committee is leaning on to argue these Games will remain accessible to Angelenos even as global demand piles in. Paralympic tickets go on sale in 2027, alongside an official resale network.
The long runway
The Games themselves open with the ceremony on July 14, 2028, with competition running July 12-30 and the Paralympics following August 15-27. Two full years out, the ticketing numbers are the first hard evidence of what organizers have long promised: demand for a home-soil Summer Games at a scale the U.S. hasn't hosted since Atlanta in 1996.
