12 Million in Line: LA28's Second Ticket Drop Is Open Through August 20

Drop 2 puts every Olympic sport on sale via 48-hour purchase windows, with registered demand tripling since February to more than 12 million.

The second — and likely last broad — chance to buy Olympic tickets before 2028 is open right now. LA28's Drop 2 runs August 10-20, offering seats across all Olympic sports at a range of price points, and the queue behind it is enormous: more than 12 million people have registered for a chance to buy, up from about 5 million in February, according to the Santa Monica Daily Press.

How the window works

There is no open checkout. Randomly selected registrants receive an emailed time slot — notifications went out August 6-7 — and then get a 48-hour window to shop, per LA28. Buyers can take up to 12 Olympic event tickets, plus 12 more for the football (soccer) tournament, with a four-ticket limit per ceremony. Registration for this drop closed July 22, and a Visa cardholder presale ran July 29-31.

The bar Drop 1 set

The first sale, back in April, moved more than 4 million tickets — a figure LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover called "nothing short of historic," per the organizing committee. Nearly 75 percent went to Los Angeles and Oklahoma City-area residents, roughly 500,000 tickets priced at $28 landed with locals, and 95 percent of sub-$100 inventory sold during the presale. One detail worth sitting with: women's Olympic sessions outsold men's, 93 percent to 88.

Why it matters

Demand from over 200 countries and all 50 states, two full years before an opening ceremony, is a scale previous Games rarely saw this early. If you registered and haven't seen a time slot yet, the window still has days to run — and if you missed both drops, Paralympic tickets go on sale in 2027, with further Olympic releases expected as venues and schedules firm up.
